Mental ill-health presents a bigger problem in Northern Ireland, compared to other parts of the UK. In the 2013-2014 Northern Ireland Health Survey 19% of respondents showed signs of mental ill health. It can not only have a negative impact on the day-to-day lives of people; it can also put a strain on their housing situation and result in an increased risk of homelessness.
This course will equip you to help clients with their housing problems that have emanated from their mental ill-health, including defending possession proceedings. You will also be better aware of the housing options available for people to sustain their accommodation or move to more suitable accomodation.
This course will cover:
- the definition of vulnerability
- recent case law
- the Mental Capacity Act 2016
- housing options
- possession proceedings
Who should attend?
- housing advisers
- community/residents groups
- political party constituency offices
- private, social and hostel accommodation providers
- legal profession.
